Apprehension reigns among Tesla employees. The workers of the car manufacturer in Palo Alto are in fact worried after the indiscretion has come out according to which 130 employees tested positive for Coronavirus, with others who are still waiting for the response of their swab. Indeed Laurie Shelby, Tesla’s vice president with responsibility for the environment, safety and health, confirmed this rumor, explaining that less than 0.25% of employees around the world have tested positive for Coronavirus.
Having said that, Shelby wanted to reassure everyone: in almost all positive cases, employees did not contract the disease in the workplace but at home or during travel with people already infectedtherefore having been immediately quarantined there is no danger that they would have infected other employees. However, not everyone trusts Shelby’s words: at the Fremont, California site, a good number of workers decided not to show up for the workplace to fear to contract the disease. Now it remains to be understood in what time the situation will return to normal: with the benefit of hindsight, Tesla’s decision made on 11 May, when he decided not to interrupt production, in open contrast with what was communicated by the Department of health.
