Terror from the right: Hanau can happen again at any time – politics

It’s been two years – and it is indeed shameful that the relatives of the dead from Hanau, nine murder victims with a migrant background, are collecting donations to advance the educational work on the night of the crime. What a bitter testimony for the state, politics. Doesn’t she take responsibility, doesn’t she enforce consequences sufficiently? This is what it looks like.

Don’t say Hanau can’t happen again at any time. Right-wing extremism lurks everywhere. When the special task force from Frankfurt am Main, which had been infiltrated by right-wing extremists, was disbanded, it became known that 13 of the 19 accused members were also on duty during the Hanau crime night.

Which means: action must be taken on many levels. And how, that’s clear. For example, communication between the health authorities, police and weapons authorities of the federal states must be continuously improved in the future. The federal government also has to keep up with this.

Because communication is one of the protective elements. Many calls on the night of the crime were not registered or recorded, there were no return calls, and there was only one officer at the downtown police station to take emergency calls.

Weapons permits only against a psychological report

The weapons law must also be observed. In principle, the SPD and the Greens are in favor of granting a gun license only on presentation of a psychological report or test and obliging gun owners to undergo regular psychological reports. The Greens have also called for private storage of ammunition for sporting weapons to be banned and storage only permitted at rifle clubs and shooting ranges. That’s right!

What’s more, politicians must institutionally defend against racism, preferably through these measures (demanded by migrants): a federal participation law, comprehensive victim and anti-discrimination counseling, a legally stipulated definition of racism. This made authorities more capable of acting. After all, 26 percent of people in Germany have a history of migration.

Or this: A nationwide fund for victims of right-wing terrorism would be good so that in the future help can be provided more quickly and with less bureaucracy and families of relatives are not alone. It was only last December that the relatives received the first compensation payments from the Hessian state parliament.

The new Federal Minister of the Interior, Nancy Faeser, is actually an opportunity here. She, also from Hessin, has a clear stance on right-wing extremism and racism and can play a key role in prevention. This can become a sign of your ministerial time.
