terrible finish of the main figure skater of the USSR

Kira Ivanova’s fate ended tragically.

Every second Soviet schoolgirl in the 80s dreamed of being like Kira Ivanova. Within a few short years, the junior sports figure skater made her way into adult competition and shone in every tournament. The USSR Championship, the USSR Cup and bronze at the Olympics – awards rained down as if from a cornucopia. The 1988 Olympics brought Kira her only 7th place due to her many mistakes after which she announced her retirement.

The champion has long tried to find a job to her liking: she performed at the Ice Miniature Theater, and also starred in films. Kira met the early 90s disappointed by her own lack of demand for her. And then there was a new stroke – the skater’s younger sister suddenly died. Unable to cope with stress, Ivanova became addicted to alcohol. Her friends tried to help her, and the athlete from time to time found herself in various rehabilitation clinics. But such treatment was not enough for a long time: Kira’s apartment turned into a hangout where dubious drinking companions visited. In December 2001, a 38-year-old woman was found dead in the same house as her. An unknown thief stabbed her 17 times and stole all the champion’s medals.
