Tennis sex scandal with former deputy prime minister Revealed, China is silent

Jakarta

The Chinese government remains silent about the disappearance of the female tennis player Peng Shuai after exposing the sexual harassment scandal he had with former Deputy Prime Minister Zhang Gaoli.

The scandal began when Peng, the 2013 Wimbledon and 2014 French Open champion in women’s doubles, posted her confession on social media, claiming that Zhang had committed sexual harassment against him.

Before long, the post was deleted, Peng’s social media disappeared, and the Chinese government reportedly blocked Peng Shuai’s keywords and tennis on Weibo’s social media.

When asked about public inquiries regarding Peng Shuai, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman did not comment much.

“I have not heard the issue you are discussing. This is also not a diplomatic question,” he told AFP.

Meanwhile, the China Tennis Association also did not comment when asked about Peng Shuai’s fate.

The World Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has also recently urged China to investigate Peng’s case fairly and without censorship. They are worried and question the commitment of the Chinese government in handling the case of the former world number one doubles player.

“Our priority is the safety and health of the players. We ask that justice be served,” wrote WTA chairman Steve Simon’s official statement.
