Tennis: kick-off for the STTV-Styrian Grand Slam in Vogau

During the past eleven days, the TC Kern facility in Vogau was very busy. At the 20th TC Kern Open, which kicked off the tenth edition of the STTV
Styrian Grand Slam powered by 11teamsports, the first winners of the season as well as the new Styrian champions in wheelchair tennis were chosen.

VOGAU. No fewer than 190 players had entered for the now traditional tournament in southern Styria – no wonder that tournament director Mario Krainer had his hands full to ensure that everything ran smoothly. To the delight of all participants, no fewer than 30 volunteer helpers from the TC Kern once again mastered this organizational challenge with flying colors.

Fink stops series winner

In the women’s race, Stefanie Ramsauer (UTC Kirchbach) and Angelika Fink battled it out for victory! Angelika Fink, who served in the championship for TC Fink Graz, played a big role in the final and prevailed 6: 1 6: 3 against Ramsauer, who had already dominated the popular sports tournament series in previous years.

Last year’s winner Hofbauer flawless

As convincing as Fink was with the women, Daniel Hofbauer appeared with the men. The 21-year-old Weizer, who was in action in the Carinthian League for SCA St. Veit this year, was in a class of his own in the 6: 2, 6: 0 final win against Alexander Wolf (UTC Eggersdorf) only 11 games in his five matches!

Youngster wins combination win

In the final of the men’s singles combination competition, for which no fewer than 63 players had named, the 16-year-old Alexander Krawagna (GAK Tennis) won against Patrick Kronsteiner from TC Kern with 6: 3, 3: 6, 10 : 3 the upper hand.

Styrian wheelchair champions were chosen

After the premiere last year, the Styrian wheelchair athletes from the 1st Styrian Wheelchair Tennis Club competed for the coveted state championship medals. In the final, Wolfdietrich Fritz and Thomas Mossier fought a gripping duel in which Mossier prevailed 6: 1, 6: 2 and thus defended his previous year’s title. In the double competition, Gerhard Schuster and Eduard Neubauer were allowed to hang the master’s medals around their necks with a final victory over Wolfdietrich Fritz / Peter Tackner.
