Tenerife closes July with the reopening of 70% of the hotel plant | Radio Club Tenerife | Present

The hotel and non-hotel plant associated with Ashotel Tenerife has closed the month of July with 70 percent reopening, according to the daily survey carried out by the hotel management after the zero tourism that occurred in March 2020 motivated by the pandemic.

Thus, with regard to the number of accommodation establishments in Tenerife, of the 206 associates, 145 are open as of July 30 (70.3%). By zones, the south of the island has 71.5 percent currently operating, the north 65.1 percent and the metropolitan area 73.6 percent.

On the islands of La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro, the associated establishments have been completely reopened since the beginning of June, as reported by Ashotel in a press release.

On the other hand, with regard to tourist beds, in the south of Tenerife they are 72.7 percent, in the north at 67.8 percent and in the metropolitan area at 85.7 percent. Currently the island has 72.5 percent of its operational associated beds.

The survey carried out by the Canary Institute of Statistics (Istac) at the end of June estimated an occupancy for Tenerife of 45 percent in August and 40 percent in La Palma, although they point out that as the weeks have passed the associated establishments palm trees have raised their forecast to 75 percent.

In the case of La Gomera, the estimates of the associates fell five points (70%), although the Istac survey placed them at 63 percent. They add that these differences “are due to the fact that many of the reservations are made at the last minute due to the situation of uncertainty.”

El Hierro, for its part, expects to exceed 90 percent occupancy in August, according to data from associated establishments, compared to the 64 percent reported by Istac in its survey.

Finally, he clarifies that the type of lodging plant of these smaller islands, in which apartments and rural houses predominate, has motivated, together with the restrictions in other capital islands, that the local tourist opts for smaller destinations and accommodations and capacity.

Regarding the type of tourist, they indicate that it is still mainly national and Canarian, since even the main international issuing markets are closed or with recommendations not to travel, such as the British and German, and to a lesser extent the Nordic ones.
