Other a shocking video through which the clarification of all that happened on the fateful night of February 28, 2023 in Tempi is attempted, came on Saturday (9/3) to the public.
According to the relevant report presented in the OPEN news bulletin, this is material that shows frame by frame the moment the two trains collide and it is in the supplementary technical report that the expert of the victims’ families has handed over to the Larissa investigator for the additional actions.
As depicted in the image, after the event they were caused three very loud explosions which formed a pyrosphere cloud into which the fatal passenger train entered and caught fire.
According to experts, everything happened in the first 1.5 seconds. In fact, one of the carriages of the fatal train jumped to a height much greater than the train axle before ending up burning on the slopes.
The video available to both those who wrote the supplementary report and the Authorities comes from a camera that was located next to the tracks.
Signs of a “lost” carriage on the commercial train
Meanwhile, the expert in the supplementary technical report also states that the commercial train had 14 and not 13 carriages.
This “lost” wagon was located immediately after the three open platforms that carried sheet metal and were containers, i.e. they were of the closed type. In fact, according to the same source, “the wagon had not been located, as it was destroyed by the explosion at the time of the collision.”
This development adds new questions to this tragic case, such as if there really is another wagon that is missing “why wasn’t it declared?” and “what was the load of this wagon?”
Xylene
The new elements, i.e. the “lost” wagon, but also xylene, preoccupy the investigations. Regarding the chemical substance, according to the analyzes of the State General Chemistry, it was found to be 95% pure, which means that there was atophy in a specific area.
It should be noted that the investigations have focused on xylene, as it is possible that it caused the large fire at the time of the collision in Tempe. The relatives of the victims submitted a memorandum to the Appellate Investigator and request that additional prosecution be instituted for manslaughter with possible intent.
They also emphasized that “our country was obliged to have National Safety Rules at least from 2019 but they did not exist”. According to the relatives, what they are interested in is the investigation of the causes that caused the fire and the explosion and that may be responsible for the further increase in the number of victims.
