Temperature control will be applied to all Walmart employees

  • Walmart announced that it will begin performing temperature checks on its employees before each shift
  • This measure is intended to protect your employees and your customers
  • If the temperature is 100ºF, that employee will be paid for reporting to work and will be asked to return home.

Walmart on Tuesday announced a new wave of employee security measures in the face of the COVID-19 crisis to help protect the health and well-being of both staff and customers, CBS Austin reported.

The world’s largest retailer will begin to perform temperature checks on all of its employees before each shift begins, as well as make masks and gloves available to all employees who want to wear them.

The new steps are in addition to the significant operational changes Walmart has made in its stores as contingency measures in the face of the coronavirus epidemic including closing overnight for cleaning, installing sneeze shields at checkout and the use of car wipes and sprays, while establishing social distancing when dealing with customers and other employees.

Each employee will have their temperature controlled before each shift. If the temperature is 100 degrees, that employee will be paid for showing up for work and will be asked to return home and request medical treatment if necessary.

Walmart’s COVID-19 emergency license policy allows associates to stay home if they have any symptoms related to COVID-19 or if they are quarantined, with the assurance that their jobs will be protected for the duration of the crisis.

Also, the chain assured that they are sending infrared thermometers to all stores and that they should arrive in a maximum of three weeks.

While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) does not recommend masks or gloves for healthy people who don’t normally wear them for their jobs, Walmart said it will make them available, as supplies allow, for employees who want to use them.

Walmart also asked its employees to adhere to the 6-20-100 guide, which means:

6 feet: corresponds to the distance that people should maintain from others when possible with the intention of maintaining social distance.

20 seconds: corresponds to the amount of time that people must spend to wash their hands with soap and water.

100ºF: Refers to the body temperature at which someone should take time off work and stay home.

Large companies seek to hire half a million people

Just over a dozen large US companies are seeking to hire nearly half a million people in the short term in the face of increased demand for their products and services from the coronavirus, which in turn has led many smaller businesses to cut their templates dramatically, reviewed the agency Efe.

Retail giant Walmart or Amazon were some of the first companies to announce ambitious plans to add thousands of workers just at a time when unemployment has skyrocketed due to the forced closure of many hotels and shops in various states of the country.
