FC Barcelona thinks that Frenkie de Jong must step in, the Spanish newspaper SPORT writes on Thursday. The club is not dissatisfied with his performance, but believes there is more to it.
De Jong is in his third season with Barcelona. His potential is not manifested in every match, so the technical staff has given him a clear assignment for the coming period: De Jong must leave his mark on the Barcelona team more. Xavi, the new head coach, also believes that De Jong has more to offer.
SPORT writes that De Jong is having a hard time in Barcelona. The club management hopes that the team will stabilize by attracting Xavi and that De Jong’s performance will improve. He is supposed to be one of the strongholds.
“One of the problems that De Jong has encountered so far is his position,” he said SPORT. ‘At Ajax he focused on one position, but at Barcelona on several positions. This still resembles Busquets’ Barcelona, he is the center of this team. Xavi sees them as complementary and hopes that they will become two important players for Barcelona.”
