“As there are possible delays and cancellations, we ask that you check the status of your flight before you arrive at the airport today.”

Ryanair said: “Due to another UK ATC failure, Ryanair is forced to delay/cancel a number of flights to/from the UK today, Monday 28th August.

“All affected passengers will be informed of their options to change flights (free of charge) to another Ryanair flight or receive a full refund.”

At Stansted, Ryanair passengers were told to wait at the gate until further notice, the Palestinian Authority said.

British Airways said in a statement: “We are working closely with NATS to understand the impact of the technical issue affecting UK airspace and will keep our customers up to date with the latest information.”
