Teatro Guerra Implements Innovative Sound System for People with Hearing Disabilities

The Councilor for Culture, María Ángeles Mazuecos, has detailed that “this action, which has had the collaboration of the Federation of Associations of Families of Deaf People of the Region of Murcia (FASEN), consists of the installation of magnetic loop amplifiers generation perimeter so that people with devices, such as hearing aids, can hear the audio signal through the amplification system”.

The Councilor for Culture, María Ángeles Mazuecos, has visited, together with representatives of the Federation of Associations of Families of Deaf People of the Region of Murcia (FASEN), the Teatro Guerra, to test the new sound adaptation system for people with hearing disabilities through an inductive loop, in order to see its operation for its subsequent implementation for all citizens.

María Ángeles Mazuecos has reported that “this action is financed from the call for aid to finance projects for the modernization and sustainable management of stage and musical infrastructures in the Region of Murcia, under the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan , in its 2021 call and is managed by the Institute of Cultural Industries and the Arts of the Region of Murcia (ICA) through NEXT GENERATION funds”.

The Councilor for Culture explained that “in said call the Lorca City Council obtained a grant of 125,495.87 euros for the modernization of the Teatro Guerra, a grant that includes four actions: improving the efficiency and energy saving of the lighting, the implantation of digital sound, the adaptation for people with hearing disabilities and the black camera plus cyclorama”.

Mazuecos Moreno has detailed that “specifically, this action consists of the installation of state-of-the-art perimeter magnetic loop amplifiers that allow people with hearing disabilities with assistive devices, such as hearing aids, to listen to the audio signal provided through the amplification system, with a cost that exceeds 43,000 euros and positions the Guerra Theater as one of the most modern in the Region of Murcia, since very few have these aid systems”.

For the Councilor for Culture, “this system will allow a better sound quality for people with hearing disabilities, especially in shows such as theater, which, due to the characteristics of its staging, most of it with ambient sound, means that It is difficult for these people to be able to follow this type of show”.

“In this way, through the inductive loop, the sound is picked up directly by the aid device (hearing aid), which improves the sound quality of the person carrying it, without interfering with the general sound of the Theater.”

Finally, the Councilor for Culture thanked “the willingness of the Federation of Associations of Families of Deaf People of the Region of Murcia (FASEN) for the implementation of this system that is already installed and has been verified to work correctly, so which is already available for its implementation in future shows that are held in our Theatre”.
