Copasir – or the Parliamentary Committee for the Security of the Republic – has acquired a summary document, from the intelligence bodies, on the interests expressed by Chinese companies in the strategic area of ​​Taranto, i.e. the industrial plants of the former Ilva and entrusting the management of the port of the Apulian city. This was announced by the president of Copasir, Raffaele Volpi: “This report and the consequent insights – explains Volpi himself – will be discussed by the Committee in the first useful session”.

The Committee, Volpi recalls, “has repeatedly expressed its concerns in relation to the use of Chinese technology in the telecommunications field. Concerns expressed both with a substantial and qualified document sent to parliament and with public requests to the government to take it seriously consideration and consequent decisions of the executive body “.

“In the resumption of work – he continues – Copasir is planning to close the series of hearings on the banking-insurance system and will identify the form of the contribution to be submitted to parliament on this very topical issue which at this particular moment, in its various facets, inevitably it intercepts the national interest and the structural sustainability, also from a perspective, of the country system “.

Copasir will also take action, adds the president, “to take stock of the hottest scenarios of the moment such as Libya and Lebanon. The Parliamentary Committee for the security of the Republic will continue, due to its competences, to operate with the utmost commitment to defend the national interest as it has done up to now, appreciating the very high quality collaboration of the Italian intelligence system on traditional and more innovative issues “.
