It is a shocking revelation that Anja Leuenberger (27) makes in her book: The Aargau model was raped twice. The first assault occurred at the age of 15 in a Zurich night club. The second as an 18-year-old model in Los Angeles. “This time it was someone from the fashion industry,” said Leuenberger.
A tragic revelation that disconcerted top model Tamy Glauser (35), but was not surprised: “I don’t know a single model who has never experienced sexual assault,” says Glauser to BLICK. “From pat on the butt to rape.” Unfortunately, such attacks are still the order of the day in the model business, said the Bernerin. “Since #MeToo, they have been less public, but probably all the more hidden.”

Glauser has witnessed abuse behavior several times
Glauser, who walked the catwalk during her long career for well-known designers such as Jean-Paul Gaultier (68), Givenchy or Vivienne Westwood (79), witnessed abuse behavior in the fashion industry up close: «A few years ago I attended a dinner in Tokyo part that was organized by a casting agency. The youngest in our group was 13 years old. When I was eating, it quickly became clear to me that it was not about possible job offers, but just about sex. When one of the agents finally wanted to take a 17-year-old model home with me, I stepped in and quickly ordered a taxi for both of us. We just wanted to get out of there. »

Another time, the responsible casting agent and the photographer Glauser wanted to force a topless shoot in a London studio: «I refused and immediately left the location. I have never worked with these people again. » Dominique Rinderknecht’s (30) partner sometimes prevented this clear stance from falling victim to sexual assault herself. Glauser: «I had a androgynous look with my bald head for a long time and was a little older than the other girls. I always acted confidently and was always openly lesbian. That probably gave me the necessary respect and helped me not to get into such criminals. »

“Many girls are afraid of blocking their careers”
Unfortunately, many young girls do not have the courage to stand up for themselves in this way, says Glauser. «Many are afraid of blocking their careers with a no. That’s too bad. Because a good model can do it without going to bed with a sleazy guy. » And some of the perpetrators are well known in the scene, explains Glauser: “There is a blacklist of photographers or casting agents among the models that you can pass on. We know which big names we shouldn’t work with. » So it came about that the Bernese model consistently refused to shoot with US star photographer Terry Richardson (54): «Terry hurried ahead of a bad call. I already knew about the allegations of abuse and sexual assault against him. Working with him was out of the question for me. »

Tamy Glauser finds it “admirable” that Anja Leuenberger now goes public with her book “The Depths of My Soul” and wants to encourage other young women and men. Nevertheless, she would have wanted her colleague to go one step further: «I think it’s a shame that Anja doesn’t say who did this to her. Sex criminals in the fashion industry, like those in the film business, are serial offenders. If she called the perpetrator, maybe other of his victims would have the courage to go public. »
