Take note! 5 Trump’s Big Failures While Becoming President of the US

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The incumbent President of the United States (US), Donald Trump was defeated in the 2020 US Presidential Election by Joe Biden, his Democrat challenger who had 290 electoral votes, while Trump had only 214 votes.

During his tenure as the number one person in Uncle Sam’s country, there were five major failures recorded under his leadership as President.

Citing CNN, Sunday (8/11/2020) Trump’s first failure was to question the incidents recorded in US bad racist history, namely Charlottesville and George Floyd.

Trump’s response to the clashes that took place during a deadly demonstration of neo-Nazi supporters in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017 remains one of the most controversial moments of his presidency.

His response also epitomizes the controversial record of racial relations and white supremacy. Trump blamed “many parties” for the violence at the demonstration which resulted in the death of one demonstrator, Heather Heyer. Trump later said that there are “very good people on both sides”.

The statement drew criticism from various parties, one of which was made by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who is often one of Trump’s strong defenders in Congress.

He said the president’s remarks “divide the Americans, not support them”.

“President Trump took a step back by again saying there is a moral equality between white supremacists, neo-Nazis and members of the KKK (Ku Klux Klan),” Graham said at the time.

Ku Klux Klan also known as ‘The Klan’ is an extreme racist group in the US founded on December 24, 1865. This group believes that the white race is the best race

Second, the US image in the eyes of the world is messy. The image of the US has declined significantly under Trump’s leadership. He has repeatedly insulted key US allies while conforming to dictators.

Trump tends to push important allies away and isolate the US, for example by pulling out of important international agreements like the Paris climate accord that are having a real impact.

In January 2020, the Pew Research Center released a survey of 32 countries that showed a median of 64 percent. They say they have no confidence in Trump to do the right thing in world affairs. Only 29 percent expressed confidence in Trump.

Third, separation of families and death of migrant children. Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy towards illegal border crossings has led to the separation of at least 5,000 families and children placed in confinement.

Initially, the separation was done to reduce undocumented people crossing the US-Mexico border. Trump has been accused of human rights abuses and violating international law by the United Nations (UN).

Fourth, withdrawing the US from the 2015 nuclear deal in 2018. This has become a popular decision.

Trump is considered to have failed in thwarting Iran’s aggressive behavior in the Middle East region. After a series of incidents in the Persian Gulf region in 2019, tensions between Washington and Tehran reached historic peaks and sparked fears of war.

These fears were exacerbated after Trump ordered the attack that killed Iran’s top general, Qasem Soleimani, in early January. The attack caused Iran to retaliate and fire on US troops in the region, seriously injuring dozens more.

Finally, the corona virus pandemic. Trump’s handling of the pandemic has become one of the greatest disasters in US history with hundreds of thousands of people having died and millions more out of work.

The US has the worst coronavirus outbreak in the world with more than 9.5 million confirmed cases and more than 236,000 deaths reported.

Trump has repeatedly downplayed the threat of the virus and denied top public health expert, Anthony Fauci. He also ignored recommendations from advisers on the White House coronavirus Task Force.

Unfortunately, Trump refused to take responsibility for his failure to face the pandemic and instead blamed China.

Trump’s handling of the pandemic has also embarrassed the US on the world stage, creating a vacuum in global leadership that China is hastily filling.

Early last October, Trump and his wife, Melania, became the people exposed to the corona virus in America.
