Corona measures are being lifted in almost all of New Zealand, Prime Minister Ardern announced at a press conference. Only in Auckland, the largest city in the country, some of the restrictions will remain in force for at least another sixteen days. “Auckland needs more time,” said Ardern.
In New Zealand, strict measures were again taken last month after the virus resurfaced in Auckland after three months without new infections. That outbreak, which started with a family in the city, appears to be under control.
As a result of the relaxations, groups of 100 people may again come together in Auckland from Wednesday. If the number of infections does not increase, there will no longer be a maximum number of visitors in two weeks. “While we are reasonably confident that we are on the right track, we still need to be careful in Auckland,” said Ardern.
There are currently 62 active corona cases in New Zealand.
