Fire in Greek relief camp in Samos | Abroad

It is still unclear how the fire started.

A resident of the reception complex is said to have been taken to hospital, while sixty minors have been placed in a hotel. They will stay there for the next few days. The Greek branch of Doctors Without Borders reports that doctors have treated people who have inhaled smoke.

Last Tuesday there was also a fire in the vicinity of the camp, several men were arrested on suspicion of arson. Since the big fire in the Moria refugee camp on Lesvos, a week and a half ago, the situation on Samos has also been tense. It is feared that migrants will set arson, as they would have done in Moria, in order to leave the camp.

Corona

The camp on Samos near the village of Vathy, with about 4,500 inhabitants, has almost seven times as many migrants as it is designed for. Recently 21 corona cases were registered.
