Taiwan has strengthened combat readiness – Novinky.cz

According to available information, the Ministry of Defense has not formally ordered the transition to the higher of the two levels of combat readiness.

This is most likely an ad-hoc reaction to the rhetoric of Beijing, which threatened that if Pelosi actually arrives in Taiwan, it will not be left without a military response.

“It would be gross interference in China’s internal affairs,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian. And he warned that the situation would lead to very serious consequences.

Some Chinese propagandists do not skimp on threats.

“If American fighter jets escort Pelosi’s plane to Taiwan, that’s an invasion. The Chinese military has the right to scare the planes. Including the use of warning missiles or obstacles in the flight path. If it’s ineffective, shoot them down,” wrote Hu Xijin, a columnist for the state-owned Global Times, on Twitter. He subsequently deleted his post.

At the same time, it is still not officially known whether Pelosi will actually visit Taiwan. She visited Singapore on Monday and is now in Malaysia.

Japan and South Korea are still on her itinerary. According to sources from the Taiwanese server TVBS and the American CNN, they will arrive in Taiwan.

If she does, she will become the highest American representative to visit the island since 1997.

Newt Gingrich, who held the same position, made the same trip at the time.

However, it can be expected that she would appear in Taiwan only on an unofficial basis, not from the position of her position. This would be in line with the “One China Policy” espoused by the US.
