Systems and sites GWK Travelex do not work due to ‘virus’ – Computer – News

The systems and websites of exchange agency GWK Travelex do not work because of a ‘virus’, RTL Z reports. It is unknown what type of malware it is. The Dutch site shows an error page from Asp.net.

GWK Travelex has taken the sites themselves offline “to prevent further damage”, reports RTL News. A spokesperson for the British parent company turned out not to be available for Tweakers. You can still exchange money physically at exchange offices, but the systems no longer work. The Dutch site shows an error page of Asp.net from Windows IIS 7.5, from the time of Windows Server 2008. The British site shows a simple error message that says that the website will function again quickly.

Travelex says nothing about the ‘virus’ that has been in computer systems since New Year’s Eve. Many outbreaks of malware in companies and organizations in recent years are ransomware. Because many companies pay, it is a lucrative business model for criminals. It is unknown when the sites and systems of GWK Travelex will be online again. GWK Travelex has around fifty branches in the Netherlands, the parent company has over 1400 worldwide.
