“Syphilis Outbreak in Kudus: Prevention and Control Measures by the DKK”

BETANEWS.ID, KUDUS – Dozens of residents in Kudus Regency contracted the lion king venereal disease or syphilis. Unfortunately, among those infected are pregnant women.

Head of the Disease Prevention and Control Division at the Kudus District Health Office (DKK), Darsono said that as of May 2023, a total of 67 Kudus residents had contracted syphilis. Seven of them are pregnant women.

“The actual sufferers are mostly teenagers. However, in 2023 there will be seven pregnant women in Kudus who will contract syphilis,” said Darsono when met at an event at @Hom Hotel Kudus, Thursday (25/5/2023).

Darsono said that dozens of Kudus residents could contract syphilis due to free sex or changing partners. In fact, for pregnant women in Kudus who contracted syphilis it was also because of this.

“The reason, because of free sex. It can be the person who has free sex, it can also be the husband and then transmit it to his wife. This is because pregnant women who contract syphilis have the status of having husbands,” he explained.

The number of syphilis cases in the district in Kudus, he said, is actually stable every year and there will be no increase in 2023. The syphilis cases that are exposed are usually those that are already severe and sufferers need treatment at the health center or hospital.

“So there may be those who are not severe and do not take treatment. But we don’t know it,” he said.

In fact, continued Darsono, DKK Kudus has often taken several preventive measures so that residents do not contract venereal diseases. These efforts include, through outreach and education to the public, regarding the dangers of free sex behavior.

“We also do it regularly screening. So that if someone is infected with syphilis, they can be treated early,” he explained.

He also appealed to the residents of Kudus to avoid free sex. Those who already have a partner are expected to be loyal and do not change partners.
