Symposium on the history of the mobile police

On the occasion of the centenary of the mobile gendarmerie, the National Society of History and Heritage of the Gendarmerie – Society of Friends of the Museum of the Gendarmerie (SNHPG-SAM), the Historical Service of Defense (SHD) and Sorbonne University (Faculty of letters) are organizing a colloquium on the history of this weapon subdivision. A story still little known, often masked by references to “police forces” or only CRS.

This conference will present in particular the genesis of “the mobile”, its role during the Second World War and the conflicts of decolonization, as well as its interventions during certain operations, until the end of the 1970s. This event will take place in two stages :

Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 November, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Defense Historical Service, the conference will address nine themes, bringing together seasoned speakers and young researchers, opening up to the valuable contributions of other specialists (jurists, sociologists , political scientists), and by integrating testimonials and reflections from law enforcement professionals.

The ninth and last session, on November 18, will consist of a round table on the issues and practices of law enforcement, with Generals Jean-Régis Véchambre (president of the SNHPG-SAMG) and Pierre Casaubieilh (commanding the schools of the gendarmerie), Olivier Christen (Director of Criminal Affairs and Pardons, Ministry of Justice), Éric Jalon (Prefect of Essonne) and the divisional commissioner Olivier Bagousse (head of the Paris delegation of CRS).

Wednesday 1is December, at 5 pm, in the auditorium of the Banque française mutualiste, the documentary The day where the Republic vacillated: February 6, 1934, by Cédric Gruat and Didier Sapaut, will be screened, followed by a debate.
