Sylvie Deyris, the artisan-florist wins 3rd place in the Coupe de France in Hyères

Nine craftsmen from all over France competed this weekend at the 50th French Cup for florists. Behind the Niçois Kevin Billard who finished 2nd, the Marseillaise Sylvie Deyris took 3rd place.

Sylvie Deyris had decided that this 5th participation in the French Cup for florists in Hyères would be the last. And it was the good one. La Marseillaise won the bronze medal this weekend behind Benoît Barbin (Paris) and Kevin Billard, a 27-year-old from Nice, florist and decorator of the Prince’s Palace of Monaco.

At 54, it is a great recognition of his know-how. Sylvie Deyris trained several hours a day to perfect the creations she presented to the jury.

“The competition is always a little bit of stress, the fear of not meeting the expectations of a jury, but the competition is above all with myself that I do it, it’s like a drug, it’s adrenaline,” she confides.

With peonies, her favorite flowers, roses, delphiniums and clematis… Sylvie Deyris notably proposed a very romantic bouquet in pinks and blues.

A passion for flowers is second nature to this daughter of a florist.

After 33 years in the business, Sylvie Deyris is about to hang up shears and apron. But not before a final challenge. Next month, she will participate in the Coupe des Meilleurs Ouvriers de France.

“It will be the last competition of my life”, she assures. For a good start.
