In healthcare, effective data management enables better decision making.
Keystone
The Federal Council must review its policy on data management in the health sector. The Council of States tacitly accepted a motion to this effect on Tuesday. The file goes to the National.
The motion of the Council of States’ public health commission asks the Federal Council to update its policy on data management in the health sector, in particular by drawing inspiration from best practices at the international level, in particular in a context of health crisis. The coronavirus pandemic has shown “that we could do better,” said Johanna Gapany (PLR / FR), on behalf of the committee.
Better decision
A whole series of figures took a long time to arrive, regretted the Fribourgeoise. Effective data management allows better decision making and this could have helped legitimize some measures at the start of the crisis.
The motion also calls for the establishment of a centralized data system that can be activated in a crisis plan. The Federal Council is also called upon to take the necessary steps to conclude agreements for the exchange of data and information necessary in the event of an epidemic at international level.
The Federal Council voted in favor of the motion.
