A video made by Swiss animal rights activist Dean Schneider (27) shocks his followers. About a year ago, he released a clip that shows him lying between his pack of lions. A young lioness scratched his face, whereupon he hit the animal. The short sequence shows Schneider angrily raising his fist and boxing the lioness.

Now he has to face the allegations of animal cruelty after complaints about the video have been received by the national animal protection authority in South Africa.

He now explains his behavior in an Instagram clip. He slapped the lioness three times on the paw – and not in the face – to show the animal its limits. He also published the video himself on his Instagram account about a year ago to show his work with the animals. Animal rights activists complained about it. “You took five seconds out of context,” explains Schneider. The positive comments that Schneider agrees are piling up under his Instagram video.

Schneider wants to bring the animals into the hearts of people
Schneider quit his job in the Zurich financial sector and emigrated to South Africa. He shares his 360 hectare farm, the Hakuna Mipaka Oasis, with various wild animals. His approximately 7 million Instagram followers watch him almost every day when he wakes up next to the two capuchin monkeys Jayjay and Momo or when he spends time with his lions.
