Cambuur raises over 45,000 euros in donations: ‘Klap is completely gone’ | NOW

SC Cambuur raised over 45,000 euros in donations on Friday and Saturday. With the support of the fans, the legal procedure must be financed, with which the Frisian club still hopes to enforce promotion to the Eredivisie.

Supporters of SC Cambuur were able to drive through the stadium in the past two days and have stickers affixed to their cars. In return, the fans made a donation. They were allowed to determine the amount of that donation themselves.

At the peak there was more than 2 kilometers of traffic jam around the Cambuur stadium. “The support we have experienced and the solidarity we have felt are truly heartwarming and unforgettable,” writes Cambuur on its own site.

“From a young supporter who brought his piggy bank to a man who apologized for his donation for being in debt restructuring. Whatever happens next week, they’ll never take it away from us and this togetherness is stronger than any storm also.”

‘Hope that everyone in Zeist will use common sense’

Trainer Henk de Jong is delighted with the action of the supporters. “This is not normal, this is Cambuur,” said the 55-year-old coach in a video message. “We will not be boxed. We had a blow last week, but it is completely gone. I hope everyone in Zeist will use their wits. This club belongs in the Eredivisie.”

A week ago, the KNVB decided not to have clubs promoted and relegated on the basis of the definitively terminated season. All Eredivisie and Eerste Divisie clubs were asked for their opinion in advance, but the football association ultimately made its own decision.

Before the competition was shut down, Cambuur was in the lead in the Kitchen Champion Division. The summary proceedings that SC Cambuur and number two De Graafschap have brought against the KNVB, will be served on Friday 8 May at 10:00 in Utrecht.
