Stuttgart. The SWEG railway company has warned travelers in Baden-Württemberg of the consequences of a strike. Operational disruptions are expected from Thursday (2:00 am), the company announced on its website. The GDL union had announced the strike at short notice in the ongoing wage dispute.
According to information, greater strike effects are expected in the Stuttgart network and in the Neckar valley of the subsidiary SWEG Bahn Stuttgart GmbH (SBS). The strike is expected to last until Tuesday (2:00 am). The railway company asked users to find out more about the timetable information on sweg.de, bwegt.de, bahn.de or in the DB Navigator before setting off.
In recent weeks, the GDL had repeatedly called for warning strikes and, after a vote, strikes at the state-owned Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehrs-GmbH (SWEG), the latest from Friday to Monday. According to the company, the effects were limited, only in the SBS network around Stuttgart were there major restrictions.
The wage dispute concerns the German locomotive drivers’ union (GDL) which wants to negotiate a wage agreement not only for SBS, but for the entire SWEG group with its 1,800 employees. However, SWEG does not want to take over the former Abellio Rail Baden-Württemberg – today SBS – permanently. Daughter Abellio experienced financial difficulties in late 2021. The company then took over the state-owned SWEG for an initial two-year period.
