“Sweden’s Research Rocket Crashes in Norway, Angers Norwegian Government”

The research rocket launched by Sweden Space Corp (SSC) from the Esrange Space Center in Sweden north suddenly didn’t work when launched on Monday (24/4). As a result, the rocket crashed and landed in neighboring Norway.

Reported Reuters and AFPWednesday (26/4/2023), rocket it was reaching an altitude of 250 kilometers (155.34 mi) where the experiment was carried out in zero gravity. However, suddenly there was an error that occurred in the rocket until it finally crashed and hit Norwegian territory.

“It landed in the mountains at an altitude of 1,000 meters, and 10 kilometers from the nearest settlement,” said Philip Ohlsson, head of communications at SSC.



Ohlsson revealed that the research rocket fell far from residential areas.

SSC has carried out the rocket evacuation process. An investigation was also carried out to find out whether there was a technical error in the incident.

The Norwegian Government is Angry

The Norwegian government is outraged by the downed research rocket Sweden to the territory. A spokesman for the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it was taking the case very seriously.

“Norwegian authorities take illegal activity on the Norwegian side of the border very seriously,” a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said by email.

“In the event of a border violation, those responsible must immediately notify the relevant Norwegian authorities, including the foreign ministry, through the appropriate channels,” the spokesperson added.

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has yet to receive any official notification of the incident from the Swedish authorities. The spokesman for the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs continued, to evacuate the debris also requires prior approval.
