The protest was convened by supporters of the Shiite cleric Muqtada Sadr due to the fact that in Sweden they planned to hold a rally near the Iraqi embassy with the burning of the holy Muslim book of the Koran.
The source of the publication notes that none of the employees of the embassy in Baghdad was injured. It is not yet known if anyone was in the room during the assault.
The Quran and Sweden’s accession to NATO
Sweden applied to join NATO back in 2022 and has since been ratified by all of the Alliance’s allies except Hungary and Turkey.
Previous actions with the burning of the Koran in Sweden, carried out under various pretexts, provoked great outrage in the Muslim world. In particular, Turkey accuses Sweden of “supporting terrorism.”
