The plan for changes appears in a letter from the Norwegian Directorate of Health to the municipalities.
– The changes will involve significantly increased use of tests – primarily self-tests, it says in patent.
The municipalities are also told that the government wants testing to largely replace the quarantine for all close contacts, including household members and similar relatives.
For household members and similar close relatives, the quarantine requirement that was introduced in mid-December 2021 still applies. This means that all close contacts who are a household member or equivalent close to an infected person, as a general rule, must be quarantined for 10 days.
To TV 2 says health director Bjørn Guldvog that this may mean quitting quarantine, and that this is not far in the future.
– Maybe two or three weeks, says the health director.
Prior to any changes, the Norwegian Directorate of Health requests that the municipalities and state administrators build up the storage capacity so that the municipality can store a number of self-tests corresponding to at least twice the population in the municipality and create information and logistics for self-testing.
The municipalities are asked to report back to the state administrators when this has been done. The Norwegian Directorate of Health asks the municipalities to have this ready by Wednesday 26 January.
