A proven case of avian flu was discovered in the canton of Friborg: a mute swan died of the H5N8 virus in Estavayer, on the shores of Lake Neuchâtel. His body was discovered Monday on the beach by a wildlife warden.
Also the precautionary measures to avoid any contamination of domestic poultry are most current, said Tuesday in a press release the cantonal veterinarian of Friborg. The latter sent a letter to all the poultry farmers the same day, ordering them a whole list of preventive measures.
In particular, it is necessary to prevent domestic animals from coming into contact with wild birds. The preventive measures also concern the owners of one or two so-called “urban” hens, specified the cantonal veterinarian.
