‘Details remain secret’

Prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters could not tell in 60 Minutes Australia whether Madeleine, the then three-year-old girl who disappeared without a trace from a holiday resort in Portugal, can be seen in the images. “I’m not allowed to say that at the moment,” said Wolters. The USB sticks and a hard drive were buried in a sort of bunker where the Brückner camper was also found, where a couple of bathing suits in girls’ sizes lay. What Wolters could say is that there are concrete indications that the girl is dead. “The German police have informed the parents that there is evidence that their daughter has died, but we have not been able to tell details.” Wolters says that the girl’s body has not yet been found. “But we have enough evidence to say the suspect killed Madeleine.”

Possibly free

At the moment, Brückner is serving a 21-month sentence in the prison of the German Kiel for drug crime. His lawyers recently filed a request to release him earlier and serve only two thirds of his sentence. German prosecutors fear that if the suspect is released, he will flee.
