Suspect in Joker costume had prepared stabbing for months | Abroad

Police believe Kyota Hattori (24) may have started preparations for his attack as early as June. Then the man resigned and stayed in several cities on his way to Tokyo, where he arrived a month ago. The suspect stated “that things were not going well with work and friends.”

Hattori injured several passengers on a train with a knife purchased on the internet and also set a fire. Passengers ran through the train in panic and climbed out through the windows. The condition of a victim with multiple stab wounds is serious. Sixteen others were treated for minor injuries, most notably for smoke inhalation.

Officers managed to arrest Hattori on the spot. Earlier it was announced that he had stated that he wanted to kill people and that he wanted the death penalty. The 24-year-old was dressed as the main character from the movie Joker. That character, a villain, also appears in the Batman movies and comics. Hattori is said to be a fan of the dark character.
