Surviving in Honda is like dying

Jakarta

Alex Marquez he made the surprising decision to switch from Honda to Ducati at the end of the 2022 season. Alex admitted he had to make this decision, because if he chose to stay at Honda, his career would die.

In the MotoGP class, Alex defended the Repsol Honda team together with his older brother Marc Marquez. However, the Spaniard’s performance wasn’t great, so he was eventually transferred to the LCR Honda satellite team.

2021 looks to be the last season for Alex to defend the Honda team. He decided to switch to the Ducati satellite team, Gresini Racing. Alex Marquez replaced Enea Bastianini who moved to the official Ducati Lenovo team.

Quoted from Motosan, Alex Marquez admits he experienced some difficult moments at the end of his career with Honda. He didn’t have the support of his team. Furthermore, Honda motorcycles are even less competitive than Ducati.

“I finished the season psychologically at the limit due to what happened in Honda. The last few months have been difficult,” said Alex. He also admitted that he really needed a change or a team change. Because if you stay at Honda, it’s tantamount to suicide.

“We need a change, to survive is to die,” continued Alex.

During the three seasons defending Honda in MotoGP, Alex Marquez did not develop. He always ends the season in the top ten. In his debut year, 2020, he could only finish 14th with 74 points with Repsol Honda.

Then, in the 2021 season, Alex, who joined LCR Honda, could only finish 16th with a collection of 70 points. In the 2022 season, Alex was only able to finish the race in 17th place with 50 points.

Now Alex Marquez can hope to grow further in MotoGP 2023. He is supported by a solid team and the most perfect and competitive bike.

“I know I’ll have a fast bike, and that’s important for a rider,” said Alex.
