Survey: Residents spend between 301 and 500 euros a year on the Internet

Latvians mostly shop online once a month; spends from 301 to 500 euros a year, buys clothes, shoes and accessories, including bags and purses.

This is clarified by the international parcel delivery company “Venipak“A study of people ‘s online shopping habits.

52% of respondents indicated that they shop on average once a month or less; 32% of the population shop a few times a month, but 16% say they do not shop at all. Analyzing the answers provided by age groups, it can be concluded that the most frequent online shopping is people aged 30 to 39, but the least common are older respondents aged 60 to 74.

When asked about the approximate amount of money the respondents have spent in the last year, it was most often indicated that from 301 to 500 euros, while the second most popular answer was from 101 to 300 euros. 15% of the population have spent up to 50 euros, and the same number of respondents said that they have spent between 501 and 1,000 euros shopping online during the year. Residents of Riga most often indicated that they had spent more than 1,000 euros, expressing it in 10% of cases.

“Many companies that were able to offer their goods online have experienced tremendous growth, sometimes not even being able to fulfill all orders,” says Justs Šablinsks, head of Venipak, an international parcel delivery company (Jousting Šablinskas), adding that supply companies also experienced bottlenecks in reviewing and improving supply chains, “of course the most in demand were those that could not be purchased in person, including clothing and footwear, as well as cosmetics and household goods.”

The survey found that most people bought clothes, shoes and accessories, including bags and wallets. This answer was chosen by 28% of respondents, while 21% said that they buy beauty and beauty products, such as face and body cosmetics, online. Residents also quite often bought furniture, household appliances and design items for housing, which was expressed by 14% of respondents. Women significantly more often bought clothes and shoes, indicating it in 32% of cases, in contrast to men, who did so only in 24%. On the other hand, young people aged 18 to 29 bought significantly more beauty products (35% of cases), while older people aged 60 to 74 bought these goods in only 14% of cases.

“Looking at the results of the survey, it can be concluded that the population significantly more often bought the so-called deficit goods caused by the pandemic, while food sales on the Internet were less popular, because basic necessities, although limited, could be purchased in person,” says J. Shablinsks , “in my opinion, not only in Latvia, but all over the world, there is still room to grow and the population, with better and better mastering and knowledge of various technologies, feels comfortable shopping remotely.”

Venipak, an international parcel delivery company, was founded in 2004. In Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, it offers almost 600 parcel delivery points. In the coming years, Venipak plans to develop a network of almost 2,000 postal terminals and parcel collection points and become one of the largest parcel delivery networks in the Baltics.
