Survey: One in three believes that the current situation of Covid-19 has a strong impact on their mental health – Health – News

Comparing the results of the respondents in November with the results of the survey conducted at the end of the summer, when such an answer was given by 19% of the respondents, an increase of 11 percentage points is observed.

At the same time, research shows that more and more people are feeling the effects of the Covid-19 situation on their daily lives. In a survey conducted in the first half of November, 46% of respondents said they felt the impact of Covid-19 on their daily lives, while in August, 31% said so. At the beginning of the summer – in June – 38% of respondents expressed such a position.

The greatest impact is observed in the age group of young people – from 18 to 24 years. The study concludes that there has been an increase in the number of young people who believe that the current situation is having a negative effect on their mental health. If in August 34% gave such an answer, then in November already 51%.

The number of people who are ready to comply with the established security measures has also increased significantly – from 57% in August to 71% in November. At the same time, people are more afraid of falling ill, no matter how much they take care of themselves and take precautions. In November, this opinion was expressed by 45% of respondents, while in August – by 28%.

Overall, 49% of the population say they are worried about the current situation. During the summer, public excitement continued to decline, but in the autumn, with the spread of the virus, it has increased. The data show that 66% of respondents expressed concern in March, 43% in May, 29% in June and 28% in August.

The authors of the study emphasize that anxiety has increased among the entire population, both young people and the elderly.

The aggravation of the situation has led to greater distrust of the health system – only 29% think that we are coping well with the virus outbreak. In August, 37% gave such an answer. On the other hand, the number of people who think that the government is doing everything possible to reduce the crisis has not changed significantly in recent months.

At the same time, 61% of respondents say they notice and hear a lot of information about the latest situation, while more than half or 55% of the population admit that they check every day how many people are re-infected with Covid-19 and how many are dead.

The Kantar Research Center’s Covid-19 barometer survey is one of the leading studies on how Covid-19 affects consumer behavior, attitudes and expectations. During the global survey, around 100,000 people in more than 60 countries are surveyed in each wave of the survey. The latest wave of research in Latvia was conducted from November 10 to 11, surveying 800 Latvian residents aged 18 to 74.
