Surabaya City Official Urges Public to Keep Environment Clean to Prevent Dengue Fever Outbreaks

SURABAYA (Suarapubliknews) – Surabaya City DPRD Commission D member Juliana Eva Wati reminded the public to keep the environment where they live clean to prevent the emergence of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF).

“We must not feel healthy but then forget about everything else, including environmental cleanliness,” said Jeje, his nickname when met in Commission Room D of the local DPRD, Monday.

This was stated following the publication of a statement from the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) which detected that the rate of Dengue cases in Indonesia until March 2024 had increased almost threefold compared to the same period in 2023.

Some efforts to prevent dengue fever include regularly draining water reservoirs so that you don’t store used items that have the potential to become mosquito nests.

Apart from that, people should not ignore healthy lifestyles, just like during the COVID-19 era.

He said the pandemic should be a lesson for people to continue adopting a healthy lifestyle.

“It has to be done every day, the point is don’t ignore anything,” he said.

Jeje stated that currently the number of dengue fever cases in Surabaya has appeared, but it is not significant.

Therefore, he encouraged the public to help the city government (Pemkot) which has routinely taken preventive measures.

“You still have to be alert, take precautions and don’t let it escalate like other cities,” he said.

Meanwhile, he advised the local city government to regularly provide education about the anticipation and dangers of dengue fever to students at each school.

“Of course the Education Department and the Health Service must coordinate further,” he said. (q cox, Ant)
