Supporting Young Mothers: Exploring Career Options and Motherhood

In the program, young expectant mothers are supported by well-known mothers during the arrival of their child. For example, Bobbi stands by Aldinya’s side and even organizes a baby shower for her. “She can enjoy becoming a mother in a festive way,” says Bobbi.

But it doesn’t stop there. Shortly after Aldinya’s birth, Bobbi visits the new mother again. Aldinya can’t stop talking about a future in the police. Still, she hesitates and may consider a job as a school teacher. “Before I got pregnant, I wanted to be sure about the police. But now that I have Jaiden, I started to have doubts.”

She is concerned that her work as a police officer means she is often away from home and working irregular shifts. To get more clarity about this, Bobbi takes her to meet police officer Eva. Once in her police car, Aldinya gets the chance to question Eva.

Eva has been working for the police for eighteen years and has two children of her own. During the tour she says that it initially took some getting used to. “I remember writing my first ticket and being unable to read my own handwriting. I was so nervous.” She also teaches Aldinya how to handcuff Bobbi and reassures her about the duty schedules. “You can indicate on which day you absolutely cannot work. Once you have completed the training, you do not immediately have to work full-time.”

This already gives the young mother ‘a little more motivation’. After the meeting, Aldinya is neatly brought home, where Eva meets baby Jaiden. “I hope to welcome you as a colleague one day.” Aldinya will start her police training in August 2024. She announced this in a video message.

Four Hands on One Belly can be seen every Tuesday at 8:25 PM on BNNVARA on NPO 3. Watch the episode here Looking back.
