English football has approved a new system designed to increase the number of coaches of African and Asian descent and ethnic minorities (BAME).
The Premier League, the Association of Professional Football Players (PFA) and the English Football League (EFL) have developed a new employment scheme for players belonging to the above-mentioned groups as coaches.
The new system will provide work for up to six BAME coaches per season, they will get jobs in the EFL clubs (Championship and two divisions below the rank – approx. Sports.ru) for 23 months.
The project is funded by the Premier League and the PFA. Participants will receive scholarships from employer clubs.
At the first stage, six coaches will receive seats either in the club’s academy or in the first team, starting from the 2020/21 season. Each trainer will participate in an individual training and development program.
The system was developed with the support of the Football Association of England (FA) for 18 months. This project is designed to complement the existing BAME Premier League coach development program, which was launched in 2015.
