Supermassive Black Hole Pair Found Again

Thursday, December 2, 2021 – 17:02 WIB

VIVA – Scientists just found a pair black hole supermassive, only 89 million light years away, located in the Galaxy NGC 7727.

The pair of black holes was discovered while scientists were carrying out new measurements by investigating the galaxy’s heart.

Couple supermassive black hole it is also the closest pair scientists have found to date, beating the previous distance record holder, which was 470 million light-years.

In addition, the two supermassive black holes are closer to each other than any other supermassive black hole pair humans have ever seen, separated by a distance of 1,600 light-years.

Astronomers believe these two black holes will grow so close together that they will merge to become much larger Science Alert, Thursday, December 2, 2021.

The discovery also not only confirms that NGC 7727 is the product of a merger between two galaxies, but provides very close insight into the interactions between supermassive black holes as they orbit before their orbits merge.

“This is the first time we have found two supermassive black holes so close to each other. Less than half the distance from the previous record holder,” said astronomer Karina Voggel of the Strasbourg Observatory, France.
