supermarkets adapt to new curfew measures

In the Drôme, as everywhere in France, the travel limits are lifted on Tuesday. It is now possible to leave without a certificate during the day. But from today, a curfew is in effect from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The impact will be limited since most shops close at 7 p.m. and bars and restaurants are already closed. However some professionals must reorganize to comply with the new measures, starting with supermarket managers.

Scheduling

During this period, the Montélimar crossroads, for example, will close half an hour earlier than usual, “At 8:00 p.m. but not before, to give our customers the opportunity to come as late as possible.” By decision of the head office, all hypermarkets and supermarkets of the brand will lower the curtain at this time.

For its part, the Leclerc of Saint-Paul-les-Romans closes at 7 p.m. instead of 8 p.m. in normal times, to allow customers and employees to adhere to the curfew“, explains the boss of the hypermarket.

Shortfall

Throughout the curfew, it will not be possible to go stock up on groceries after 8 p.m. in the Auchan store in Guilheran-Granges, which is usually closed from 9:30 p.m.

“We had already brought our schedules forward to 9 pm because of the health crisis, it is much earlier”, complains the store manager, “especially during this festive period, at important time slots, it is a real economic loss. ”

To compensate, it is one of the businesses that will open earlier, starting at half past 7 in the morning, from Saturday 19 December.

What about take out orders?

Managers who rely on take-out orders like this pizzaiolo from Saint-Rambert d’Albon are worried. “Calling on a delivery person has a cost, and the countryside is often deprived of delivery services in town”, he says.

He too will have to adapt and open earlier to finish the service at 7:45 p.m. “Normally rush hour is between 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.” Take-out orders allowed this pizza chef to hold out until the reopening, he estimates a loss of 35 to 40% of his turnover.
