Super Mario Bros. Wonder has become a smash hit for Nintendo. The first two-dimensional new Mario game in 11 years sold 4.3 million copies in its first two weeks.
In its latest quarterly report Nintendo announces that Super Mario Bros. Wonder thus stands for the biggest launch of a Super Mario game ever. However, the company points out that this only applies to games launched on the Nintendo Wii or later, as that’s when Nintendo started collecting this data.
Going forward, Nintendo expects the Switch game to continue to sell out. According to CEO Shuntaro Furukawa, Mario games tend to stay popular for a long time, and Nintendo believes Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be very popular this Christmas.
