St.Gallen cashes against FCZ: “We’ll get up again”
FC Zurich remain a red sheet for St. Gallen this season. In the third comparison of forces with the Zurich team, the leader remained without points at 0: 4.
The first home game of FC St. Gallen after the lockdown should have been a party in a cozy setting. It became a drama in four acts for the team of Peter Zeidler and the approximately 750 spectators in the St. Gallen stadium. An own goal by Vincent Rüfli (31st), a counterattack by Aiyegun Tosin (61th) and a late doublet (85th / 90th) led to the third FCZ victory in the third duel and to the highest defeat of the Eastern Swiss this season. The leader failed to benefit from Master YB’s slip on Tuesday against Thun because he lacked efficiency compared to the Zurich team.

Every minute, the leader offered the fans present moments in the first quarter of an hour that they could cheerfully applaud. Seconds after the kick-off, the sparse seats were cheered for the first time when Emir Demirovic missed the perfect start for the home team on Cedric Itten’s cross. The 1: 0 closest came to St. Gallen in the 14th minute through Itten. The 23-year-old attacker brought a long Görtler ball under control with a ball contact and hit the top edge of the crossbar from around 22 meters. FCZ goalkeeper Yanick Brecher would have had no chance against the violent shot, but luck was with the guests on Thursday evening.

Only in the middle of the first half did the Zurich team come up with a concept to deal with the St. Gallen offensive drive. Driven by coach Ludovic Magnin, the FCZ bit into the game and convinced primarily with its duel behavior. Until the break, only the home team was responsible for the playful component, even though the Zurich team were immediately successful with their first corner in the game. Blaz Kramer extended the ball from Benjamin Kololli to the wide post, where Rüfli could no longer avoid and hit his own goal. After the break, the FCZ found their luck in the counterattack and served the home team with goals from Aiyegun Tosin (61./90) and Benjamin Kololli (85.) as an example of efficiency.
