Super-G in St. Moritz: Goggia feat, success number 23

Sofia dominates with almost 95/100 over Huetter, equaled Brignone and returns to success in the specialty after almost two years. Fede 5th, Bassino 7th. Bad fall for Curtoni

First goal achieved. On the Corviglia which gave her a world medal in the giant slalom and where she was once again the protagonist last year (she broke her hand, the next day she won the downhill) Sofia Goggia returns to win in super-G. It hasn’t happened for almost two years, since Val d’Isere on 19 December 2021, and this time it’s worth more: almost a second ahead of the second place, the Austrian Cornelia Huetter (at 95/100), over a second over Lara Gut (third at 1″02). A dominance built after a controlled start and an acceleration that no one else has managed to repeat, also taking some risks before launching into an irresistible finish. And the certainty that after the progress in giant slalom, Sofia also took over the super-G.

in the cup

Sofia relaunches the challenge with Federica Brignone: she has now equaled her teammate on 23 victories (6 super-G, 17 downhill) in the World Cup. For Fede, fresh from the fantastic double in the Mont Tremblant giants, a day with some regrets. A mistake at the end, when she risked going off the track, slowed her down while she was aiming for the podium. “It’s a shame, I was in the running for second place. Today I didn’t feel like pushing, I didn’t feel comfortable. The race with Goggia? I don’t care, I want to think about how I ski, about my performance.” In the end Brignone is fifth (at 1″21) behind Mikaela Shiffrin. And seventh, at 1″77, is Marta Bassino. Sixteenth place for Laura Pirovano, at 2″79.

curtoni fear

It wasn’t easy on a day of poor visibility due to the light snow that disturbed the athletes. Scary fall for Elena Curtoni: after having scored the best intermediate in the upper part of the Corviglia, the Italian flew away at one hundred kilometers an hour, betrayed by a bump on a day of terrible visibility. Elena landed on her back, slipped for dozens of meters and ended up in the safety nets. The airbag deployed, Elena got up and got back on skis, but she seemed to have pain in her knee.
