Sunday Trading Ban: Percentage of Opponents Drops Below 50% for the First Time

The percentage of opponents of the Sunday trading ban dropped below the 50% threshold for the first time. “And in September, also in the UCE Research study, 54% were against the Sunday trading ban.” – describes rp.pl.

– An interesting situation, because many other studies have shown for a long time that supporters of restoring the previous state are well over 50 percent, and there was a moment when it was even over 60 percent. – says Robert Biegaj, a retail market expert from the Offerista Group. – It’s just that it was at the very beginning, when Poles were a bit unable to find their way in the new situation and wanted to reverse it. However, the longer this situation lasts, the less support for Sunday trading weakens, he adds.

Currently 46% support the return of Sunday shopping. subjects (24% definitely yes, 22% probably yes). 44% are against it. respondents (25% definitely do not want to return, and 19% rather not). 10 percent respondents chose the answer “it’s hard to say”).

The largest number of supporters of the Sunday trading ban are PiS supporters – 62.5%. The ban is also supported by 54.6 percent. supporters of Non-Party Local Government Workers and 46.7 Third Way voters. In turn, KO voters dominate among opponents of the ban – 59%. 58.3 percent Leftist supporters believe that the ban should be lifted, as do 50 percent. Confederation sympathizers.

– Poles have become somewhat accustomed to this state of affairs and it bothers them less and less, although it is still visible that almost half of their compatriots would like to see the return of all Sundays in trade – comments Biegaj.

Trading ban on Sunday. The government does not want to abolish it

Business Insider Polska decided to ask whether the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy is working on lifting the ban. It turned out that the ministry “is not carrying out any work on changes in the above-mentioned area.” Thus, for the first time, the ministry officially admitted that it is not working and does not plan to work on the issue of Sunday trading.

The position of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy confirms the previous statements of its head, Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk. In one of the interviews, she stated that lifting the ban on Sunday trading is not a priority for her ministry.

Let us recall that the act gradually introducing the ban on Sunday trading entered into force on March 1, 2018. From 2020, this law does not apply only on seven Sundays a year. There are six more left this year: March 24, April 28, June 30, August 25, December 15 and December 22.
