MAINBERG – Once again, phone fraudsters pretended to be police officers and cost an elderly couple a five-figure sum. The Würzburg criminal police has now taken over the investigation into the case and is now hoping for clues about the as yet unknown money collector.
The phone fraudsters first reported to the seniors on Wednesday morning. They pretended to be criminal police officers and inquired about the property of the couple. Due to the skillful conversation of the callers, the injured parties did not suspect that they had been caught by fraudsters and gave information about their available cash.

The fraudsters made the seniors believe in phone calls that their savings were counterfeit money. With this justification, the money should be handed over to a person collecting it and then exchanged.

In the period between 11.45 a.m. and 12.15 p.m., the injured parties handed over a five-digit amount of money to a person collecting it, which is described as follows:
Male
About 30 years old
Approx. 180 cm tall and slim
Dark hair
suntanned
dressed in black
The money was handed over in front of the church in Mainberg, in the area of an underpass to the Main. The perpetrator and his prey disappeared in an unknown direction.
Anyone who may have observed the handover of the money or can provide other relevant information that could help to clarify the case is urgently requested to contact the Würzburg Criminal Police on Tel. 0931 / 457-1732.
