The Netherlands will have to deal with summer storm Francis on Wednesday. Weather Plaza warns that weakened trees could fall and advises vacationers to take precautions.
The wind is already increasing strongly on Tuesday evening. At sea it gets stormy with heavy gusts of wind up to 100 kilometers per hour.
In the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, the wind picks up further. It may take some time to storm along the coast from a westerly or southwestern direction. Inland, heavy gusts of wind of possibly 75 to 100 kilometers per hour are expected.
Wednesday morning it will remain turbulent and rainy in a large part of the country. It is drier in the southern provinces, but there too the wind is strong.
Weakened trees can be blown over
Many trees have been weakened by the drought and so many branches can come down, Weerplaza warns. “With the most violent gusts of wind, various weakened trees will most likely blow over. Especially in urban areas this can cause damage here and there.”
The weather service also advises holidaymakers to take precautions. “Make sure the tent is properly secured with extra guy ropes and caravan owners are advised to secure their awning as well. When departing from the campsite on Wednesday, it is advisable to end the holiday a little earlier. “
On Wednesday afternoon the storm will decrease in strength. On Thursday it hardly blows, it stays dry in most places and even the sun breaks through regularly.
