Summary of the ANRT “Science, Innovation and Society” conference

In partnership with the ELSA-PACT chair and the Cité de l’Economie et des Métiers de Demain (Montpellier), the ANRT “Science, Innovation and Society” conference was held by videoconference on December 10, 2020.

LIFE CYCLE ANALYSIS (LCA), A TOOL AT THE SERVICE OF ENVIRONMENTAL STRATEGIES. WHAT RESEARCH, WHAT INNOVATION, WHAT USES?

For a more resilient and responsible “next world”, life cycle analysis (LCA) is a method of measuring environmental impacts integrating the multiplicity of data.

The causal chains between human activities and natural ecosystems are complex. LCA still calls for a lot of research to gain relevance and reliability. Researchers are experimenting with adapted approaches with businesses and public authorities.

ANRT has published a summary of the conference on its website read in PDF.

Extract from the introduction:

“The climate emergency and the collapse of biodiversity would call for a considerable reduction of our impacts; the results of the efforts made so far are far below the objectives set by the planetary limits. How can we do better? to live up to ecological ambitions which, even calculated as accurately as possible for the survival of our ecosystem, today appear far from our reach? Life cycle analysis is one of the solutions: to better control our footprint, we must begin by better evaluating it. State of the art, challenges and courses of action were at the heart of the debates of the day. “
