Suicide of a school director in Seine-Saint-Denis: the administration recognizes its responsibility

The responsibility of the administration was recognized in the suicide of Christine Renon, this school principal of Seine-Saint-Denis who had denounced in a letter her working conditions before killing herself. According to the ministry, this is a decision “Customary” in these kinds of circumstances.

On September 23, his body was found in the hall of his nursery school in Pantin. In a letter sent two days before her suicide to multiple recipients, this 58-year-old woman questioned national education and her working conditions, detailing “Its exhaustion”, the loneliness of the directors, or the incessant and contradictory reforms. His act had raised a wave of emotion among his colleagues and beyond; numerous support rallies had been held in the country.

A “customary decision”, according to the ministry

“All that she denounced is recognized: it was the deterioration of her working conditions which pushed her to end her life, continued Mme Plard. This is extremely important for colleagues and it will allow us to fight so that we really have an improvement. “

When questioned, the education ministry told AFP that it was a “Customary decision of the administration in these kinds of circumstances, because it ensures maximum protection for the beneficiaries”. The report of an administrative investigation by the general inspectorate of national education, launched after the suicide, is also expected to be published in the coming days.

According to a source close to the investigation, it would seem that this report does not conclude “Not only the responsibility of the employer”, but establish “A bundle of patterns” to explain M’s suicideme Renon. Tuesday, the Ministry of National Education is also expected to publish the results of a consultation carried out in November with all school principals, to establish an inventory of their conditions of practice and their needs.
