“Sudanese Red Crescent calls for protection of medical facilities amidst ongoing violence”

The Sudanese Red Crescent stressed the need to neutralize medical facilities from hostilities, pointing to the lack of safe and reliable corridors for the delivery of humanitarian aid.

The Sudanese Red Crescent added to Al-Arabiya / Al-Hadath that “there are obstacles that we face in many regions.”

In a related context, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Ghebreyesus, stressed that health facilities, workers and patients in Sudan should not be targeted in the ongoing violence.

He added that the organization had documented several deadly attacks targeting health institutions, stressing the need to stop this.

He also said that “caregivers and those who need care should not be the target of attacks in Sudan.”

3,700 people were injured

Since the fighting began in Sudan nine days ago, more than 3,700 people have been injured and more than 420 killed in the conflict, according to the organization’s figures.

There were 14 attacks on health facilities, killing 8 people and wounding 2.

Injuries in Khartoum hospital due to battles

Today, the Sudan Doctors Syndicate announced that the death toll from the clashes has risen to 264, with 1,543 wounded.

The committee said, in a statement it posted on its Facebook page, that there are many injuries and deaths that are not included in this inventory, and that it was unable to reach hospitals due to the difficulty of movement and the security situation in the country.

Scarcity of nutrients

While a United Nations report indicated that 413 people had been killed and 3,500 injured as of April 21. He explained that 132 people were killed in Khartoum, 95 in North Kordofan, and 61 in North Darfur.

Since the start of the clashes on April 15 between the two major military forces, the country has suffered from a shortage of food, and many health and medical facilities have stopped, amid interruptions in electricity and sometimes internet service.
