Successful Blood Donation Drive at Lafrancaise College: A Lesson in Civic Responsibility.

However, this did not start under the best auspices. Fifteen days before collection, there was a 60% shortage of promises compared to the same period the previous year. Despite hours of awareness raising by the Association of Volunteer Blood Donors (FFDSB) of Lafrancaise, the Association for Organ and Tissue Donation 82 (Adot), the French Blood Establishment (EFS), teachers of SVT of the college, the promises of donations did not return to the urn of the college. The “Girafodons” (playful barometers of promises) did not fill up, or only slightly.

It will have been necessary to wait for the last days to see the pupils get involved and the promises arrive, thanks to the general mobilization decreed by the principal, going to each of the twenty classes in order to sound the hour of solidarity.

The results are more than positive even if less than 2022. The main thing is that the students have become aware of the importance of mobilizing for this kind of civic action, that they are aware that giving of oneself is essential for the “living together” in our society.

Moreover, many former students came to donate to this special collection for them! The message was therefore well received at the time.

All the college staff, the Association of Volunteer Blood Donors, the Adot 82, the EFS as well as the staff of the town hall of Lafrancaise are stakeholders in the success of this collection of college students 2023.

But the real actors are the students who have sought (successfully or not) volunteers to donate, it is the 138 or so sponsors of the establishment who have collected around 200 pledges. Including the pupils of the Jb Ver and Sainte-Marie de Lafrancaise schools, who, also sensitized within the framework of the CM2/sixth grade liaison, contributed their share by getting involved.

This Thursday, April 20, 211 people showed up (with or without an appointment, with or without promises). The EFS was able to collect 193 people, and 33 new donors have embarked on the adventure, which is just beginning for them!

To the delight of the sick beneficiaries, this 13th collection of college students is a success.
