A ceremony organized by the Burgundy-Franche-Comté Region
This Saturday, October 14, 2023, in Dijon, the regional council of Burgundy-Franche-Comté organized a ceremony to congratulate all of these competitors who are the ambassadors of professional training in the region. Around forty of them were present at the Palais des Congrès, accompanied by as many trainers.

The ceremony took place in the presence of Océane Godard (PS), vice-president of the regional council responsible for high schools, training provision, apprenticeship and guidance, Frédéric Poncet (PS), advisor regional delegate for guidance and Pôle emploi, and Denis Weil, representing the Rotary Clubs of Burgundy and Franche-Comté.

A team spirit favorable to emulation
“These moments will remain engraved in your memories,” said Marie-Guite Dufay (PS), president of the regional council of Burgundy-Franche-Comté, welcoming the competitors in particular. “You can be very proud of yourself! Congratulations to everyone !”

The team spirit which developed through the departmental and then regional selections was marked by significant cohesion, coupled with the quest for excellence in the preparation of national competitions.

During these, members of the Burgundy-Franche-Comté trades team were also able to discuss their respective practices with other regional teams in a climate favoring emulation rather than rivalry.

“Training is the path to freedom”
“I very sincerely welcome the participation of the Burgundy-Franche-Comté Region in this career competition. First of all, it is a fantastic showcase of our know-how. Our region is rich in all sectors, from the most traditional trades to cutting-edge sectors, including the arts and crafts sectors, and, finally, there are many industrial specialties. This is not the result of chance, we are the great industrial region of the country,” explained Marie-Guite Dufay.

“This competition promotes the quality of training that is conducted in our region, apprenticeship, vocational high schools and also university years. As regional president, I have always attached great importance to training because training is not only about the job, the salary, the future, but it goes beyond that. Mastering a skill also leads to passion and personal achievement. Training is the path to freedom. It’s crucial in life,” continued the socialist.

“The starting condition is quality training with quality structures, equipment, trainers and supervisors. We are very proud, in our region, to participate in the construction of this environment,” she added.

Building a network using Worldskills
«[Les Worldskills], this is an opportunity to build your network. The network is important. The network in Burgundy-Franche-Comté and the network in your field of activity at the national level and this can serve you for a very long time and can be extremely valuable to you,” underlined Marie-Guite Dufay.

The President of the Region particularly praised the commitment of the coaches to the competitors and thanked Rotary for its support through the financing of official outfits since 2014.

Furthermore, Rotary offers RYLA internships to young people who wish to do so (for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards), six-day training periods to “help young people explore their possibilities for personal development and their relational skills”, as Denis Weil explained.

“The Region is there to secure the rebound in the job market”
Océane Godard returned to “the direction of the future” which “is embodied” in the Explore les professions trade show, organized last March in Dijon, to raise awareness of around fifty different professions (read our article).

“We have chosen in Burgundy-Franche-Comté to make it the largest regional event dedicated to the promotion of professions through fun and educational courses for more than 7,000 middle and high school students, apprentices, students, job seekers or people in professional retraining,” explained the regional elected official. “The Region is there to secure the rebound in the labor market, whether suffered or chosen.”

“Orientation is, above all, daring”
“Tell those around you, to those who don’t have a job, can’t find their way, haven’t yet found the right job for them, that your career paths are examples for them. We dare to test professions, they will find the right one for them. Behind it, there will be training, there will undoubtedly be a company that will be ready to welcome them. Orientation is above all about daring,” added Frédéric Poncet.

Before this ceremony, Frédéric Poncet went to Gdansk to support Thomas Dietschi, candidate in CAD-CAD, appearing among the 42 competitors of the French team participating in the European competitions of the 46th edition of Euroskills.

The French team returned with 5 gold medals, 5 silver, 7 bronze and 15 medals of excellence, placing themselves in second place on the nations podium.

The competitors thank their supervisors
Former employee of the AFPA, Thierry Girardot was congratulated for his career as volunteer coordinator within the Burgundy-Franche-Comté trades team.

Then the ceremony ended by reversing the roles: the competitors presented a “diploma” and a reward to those who accompanied them during these Worldskills selections and competitions.
